Joyce Oyer – Principal

Joyce Oyer is honored to serve as Founding Principal at AMS Mesa and is passionate about creating a school where every child feels safe, supported, and excited to learn. With more than 15 years of experience in education, Joyce has worked as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, interim principal, and charter school director. These experiences have shaped her belief that strong relationships, meaningful instruction, and open communication with families are the foundation of a successful school community.

Joyce is dedicated to supporting the whole child by working closely with teachers and families to ensure students receive both the academic challenge and personal support they need to thrive. She is committed to fostering a positive school culture where students feel valued, respected, and encouraged to grow into confident learners.

When she’s not at school, Joyce enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and relaxing with her three dogs. She looks forward to partnering with AMS Mesa families and getting to know each student as they begin their learning journey.

Jhonathan Rendon - Assistant Principal

I am truly honored and excited to join the AMS Mesa community as one of your Assistant Principals. Education has always been more than a profession for me — it’s a commitment to building opportunities and helping young people realize their full potential.

What excites me most about AMS is the shared belief that every scholar can achieve at high levels when given clear expectations, strong systems, and meaningful support. I believe in high standards paired with strong relationships. When scholars know we care about them and believe in them, they rise to meet those expectations.

AMS Mesa stood out to me because of its culture, its dedication to excellence, and its growing impact in the community. I am passionate about supporting teachers through coaching and collaboration, protecting instructional time, and ensuring that our scholars feel safe, challenged, and celebrated every single day.

You can expect me to be visible on campus, present in classrooms, and approachable to families. I value open communication, consistency, and teamwork. My goal is always to build systems that allow teachers to teach effectively and scholars to learn at their highest capacity.

Outside of school, I enjoy staying active, spending time with family and friends, engaging in community events, and watching sports. I value making connections, humor, and building relationships.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the AMS Mesa community and look forward to partnering with our staff, scholars, and families to continue building something exceptional together.
